Sober August: Review

-The End of Sober August-

Sober August is finally over! Now on to Sloppy September!...Just kidding. I wanted to do 1 more update on Sober August summing up the whole experience.

It was pretty difficult at times to not give in and just have a drink. There were several days where, in normal circumstances, I would have had several drinks to relax. For example, when I would come home after a stressful day at work or when the in-laws came over for a visit. My typical vice for those situations would a nice stiff drink just to get me through it. However, since I couldn’t drink alcohol this month, I had to just make it on my own.

I do feel a little more empowered knowing that I don’t have to have that crutch to fall back on. We sometimes get caught up in the thought that when something stressful, bad, or sad happens to us, we “need a drink”. I know for a damn fact that I do this too.

Customer is an asshole or a Karen? Whiskey.

Have to engage in small talk with someone you don’t particularly like or are comfortable around? Beer.

Celebrating a good day? Whiskey and Beer!

I learned from this month is that I really don’t “need a drink”. Would I like one? Hell yeah I would, but I don’t necessarily need one.

All-in-all this challenge was not as hard as I thought it would be. I am proud for making it the whole month without any alcohol! I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again for the people in the back: I do believe that setting these some challenges for yourself can help your mental health. Even a challenge like this can prove to yourself that you have self-discipline! I’m going to continue to challenging myself in different ways to start creating heathier habits.

If you have any challenges in your life and would like to share or need someone to help/do it with you, do not hesitate to reach out!

With all that said…I’m go have a Beer!

Your Legendary Gent,

Shane
